LAST-BLOCK

Fight dirty. Use what's around you. Survive the block.

Last-Block is a 2D action brawler where survival means making the most of your surroundings. Fight through waves of hostile enemies, throw punches, swing bats, and turn everyday objects into improvised weapons.

Face unarmed and armed melee enemies, keep your distance from ranged attackers, and fight your way through increasingly dangerous encounters. Survive the enemy waves and prepare yourself for the final showdown against the boss.

FEATURES

  • Brawler Combat — Use light and heavy attacks to take down your enemies.
  • Improvised Weapons — Turn environmental objects like bottles, bats, and trash cans into weapons.
  • Different Enemy Types — Face melee grunts, ranged attackers, and tougher opponents that challenge your combat skills.
  • Wave-Based Progression — Fight through successive enemy encounters on your way to the final challenge.
  • Boss Fight — Put your skills to the test against the final boss.
  • Audio and Atmosphere — Gameplay music, boss music, combat sound effects, and victory music bring the action to life.
  • Browser Playable — Jump straight into the action without needing to download the game.

HOW I USED DREAMLAYER

DreamLayer was part of my visual development workflow for Last-Block, helping me turn static character artwork into animated assets for a playable game.

I first generated the static character sprites using GPT. Because my DreamLayer credits were limited, I used DreamLayer's CLI specifically for the animation process rather than spending credits on every stage of asset creation.

I used the generated animations and poses in the game's character and combat systems, integrating the resulting assets into Godot.

My workflow

  1. Static sprite creation — Generated the initial character artwork using GPT.
  2. AI-assisted animation — Used DreamLayer CLI to animate the static sprites and create the poses needed for gameplay and combat.
  3. Game integration — Imported the assets into Godot and connected them to the game's animation states and combat logic.
  4. Playable result — Combined the visual assets with combat mechanics, enemy behaviors, environmental weapons, audio, and a boss encounter.

This workflow allowed me to make deliberate use of limited AI credits by combining tools according to their strengths. Rather than treating AI-generated visuals as standalone images, I integrated them into a functioning game.

BUILT WITH

  • Godot Engine — Game development and gameplay systems.
  • GPT — Initial static character sprite creation.
  • DreamLayer CLI — AI-assisted character animation.
  • Kenney and other audio assets — Sound effects and music used to bring the game to life.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Last-Block was developed solo for the DreamLayer Game Jam. It was an opportunity to build a playable game, experiment with an AI-assisted visual workflow, and bring generated assets into a complete gameplay experience.

Thanks for playing. I hope you enjoy your time on the block!
